How to organize a beach tennis tournament

A good beach tennis tournament is simple to run when the format is chosen early. Follow these steps.

1. Choose the format
  • Super 8: groups of 8 players with rotating partners and an individual ranking. Great for social events.
  • Fixed doubles: teams are registered as pairs and play a group stage followed by a knockout phase (mata-mata).
  • Round robin: everyone plays everyone, ideal for small fields.
2. Define categories

Separate by gender and level (for example open, A, B, C, mixed). Each category can be its own tournament, with its own groups and ranking.

3. Register players or teams

Add the participants, mark seeded teams so strong pairs do not meet early, and use byes when the number of teams does not fit the bracket.

4. Build groups and schedule courts

Generate balanced groups, assign courts and keep the match order organized so nobody waits too long.

5. Score the matches

Beach tennis is usually decided in sets with tiebreaks, sometimes with a supertiebreak instead of a third set. Configure the scoring before the first match.

6. Publish the ranking

Rankings update as results are recorded. Close the day with the knockout phase and the final standings.
